Encouraging Performances from the Grizzlies

Warwick Grizzlies vs Blackpool Dragons 10-13

After more than 5 months without Floorball, it was time for the newly branded 10390529_925498200869937_7248307933883178651_nGrizzlies to head to the rink for the first time. A very successful preseason recruitment period brought several new faces to the first tournament on the 25th October. The Grizzlies commenced the season against debutants Blackpool Dragons.
A dominant display in the first period meant that Warwick actually went into the first break 3-1 up (yes, really). However, a near melt down at the beginning of the second period saw us conceed 7 goals in 10 frustrating and disappointing minutes. Something fresh was needed to get back into the game, and it came at the beginning of the final period, where an inspired Fredrik Stokke scored twice and hit the post all in the space of 30 seconds bringing Grizzlies straight back into the game. Ultimately though, we were chasing the game and were caught on the break leaving the final score at a disappointing 10-13.

Scorers: Sandris Sikorka (1) Sam Lehtinen (1) Pier-Olivier Marchand (1) James Robinson (2) Simon Mansson (2) Fredrik Stokke (3)

Warwick Grizzlies vs Rhinos 2-10

Our second game of the day was against rivals Rhino’s. They came straight out of the blocks and their superior experience showed as they quickly put the game out of reach. A huge team effort in the last period gave us a couple of consolation goals with even Simon Saunders managing to hit the target. But overall, a disappointing result as the game ended 10-2.

Scorers: Pier-Olivier Marchand (1) Simon Saunders (1)

Special mentions must go to Simon Mansson for managing to fall over the barriers, completely unaided – twice. And to Oli for putting up with us in the minibus, and making his first appearance in goal. Although the results weren’t as we had hoped on the way into the tournament, it was a great display from a team which had been playing together for under a week! We left Birmingham with plenty of positives and drills to work on. Bring on the next tournament! COYG!!
